Sofia Richie’s 3 Wedding Dresses And Why We Are Obsessed

Sofia Richie, daughter of Lionel Richie got engaged to Elliot Grainge in April of 2022 and their wedding took place on the weekend that just passed us. The nepo baby ‘it’ girl had 3 custom Chanel dresses made for the occasion, all of them beautiful, elegant and timeless.

The first of the dresses was the gown that she wore at the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding. This beautiful high neck full coverage dress contained hand sewn fringed beads dangling all over it. It also featured an underneath skirt with the similar fringed hemline. This conservative dress is perfectly worn by her, with her hair tied up and paired with some low white sling back heels, she embodies the definition of classy.

Her rehearsal dress was inspired by this Stella Tennant dress worn on a couture runway in 1997. It features a similar fabric in black however whilst still retaining the same figure and length. Sofia’s constant reference to previous iconic fashion pieces highlights the importance of her desire to remain ageless within her choices and is something everyone can appreciate.

Her reception dress is an elegant halter neck lace dress with an abundance of intricate beading. She carried over a similar updo and complimented the gown with diamond drop earrings. The veil which is one of my personal favourite elements of her wedding gowns features water resin droplets to create a stunning dew drop look. This is something that I think will now come into fashion for upcoming brides.

Her dress had an S&E embroidered in blue over her heart on the inside of the gown which such a meaningful touch. In addition to this personal element, there was also a heart design in lace in the middle of her chest and another one below mirroring it. The elegant line of this dress was not what she originally imagined for her wedding however, as she got older she realised she “wanted something a bit more simple”. The so-called simplicity of this dress is why everyone is so obsessed with it, the long train and veil add femininity to her vision that can only be described as sophisticated.

Her final dress that was worn at the afterparty carried the same elegant we saw in her first 2 dresses. This mini structured dress featuring a double skirt and adds fun to her more tasteful previous dresses. Further, the inclusion of white heels with bows on the front set the tone for a celebratory night.

Above you can see the inspiration which was drawn from Claudia Schiffer’s nineties runway dress. It features the iconic Chanel flower in it’s centre and a true testament to the timeless nature of its cut, design and style. She has kept the hemline of the dress at a modest length whilst dually bringing a more party ready energy.

Has her wedding coverage and choices sparked her path towards being the it girl of 2023?
