Iconic 2023 Met Gala Looks I Think Will Influence Upcoming Trends

This years Met Gala that followed the theme of ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’ resurfaced multiple iconic outfits and influenced pieces from Karl’s iconic designs. With everyone watching this prestigious charity event, it is no surprise that many will find influence within the looks that have graced the carpet.

Anne Hathaway’s look consisting of tweed and golden safety pins proves to be a crowd favourite this year. I think that the inclusion of pearls between the gaping fabric, holding it together, could be something we can expect to see in the future. It adds a sense of elegance to the dress which is a distinctive nod towards the design of Chanel.

The appearance of Kate Moss and her daughter Lila Moss brought us coherent pale pink looks and sparkly heels. They both radiate soft femininity in their dresses, a trend that is already amongst the fashion world but its often overshadowed by short term trends. Perhaps we can expect a resurgence of this aesthetic in the upcoming months.

Billie Eilish’s look from this met gala was phenomenal with the attention to detail elevating her look further. This black swan-esque outfit exerts mysterious energy, with her dark hair complimenting this aura. An element of this outfit that stands out to me is her hair accessories. The weaving of ribbon and beads into her braid looks so beautiful and the sparkly black clips are an amazing statement.

Another dress that everyone was hoping would make a reappearance was this Chanel bridal dress that was initially worn by Claudia Schiffer and here is showcased by Dua Lipa. I think that the plunging waist line is something that we can expect to see increasing in future wedding dresses and even in high street wear, in addition to the rising in popularity of the colour ivory.

My favourite look from the met gala look has to be Anokyai’s stunning dress. Not only is this look out of this world, but she also looks so flawless. From this, I think that we can anticipate more combinations of gold and silver rather than one or the other because the transition in this dress looks incredible. I also think that the wide plunging neckline is another element that makes his dress so elegant and a possible trend to look out for.

In this look, although I am unsure of the harmony between the colour of the dress and Alexandra’s complexion, we are given a beautiful cascading of material. This particular layering seen on her dress demonstrates a gracefulness that is similar to the soft femininity explored in Kate and Lila Moss’ dresses. I could definitely see more dresses and skirts mirroring this same stream of fabric.

Although the iconic Chanel rose has been around since the beginning of time, I think there could be a possible increase in its more casual wear. This beautiful mini dress worn by Jennie radiates a timelessness whilst also appealing to a more preppy side through the pleats in her skirt. Therefore, I believe that this rose may become popular between those with a pre existing taste for that style.

Gigi Hadid showed up in this all black look from Givenchy which looked amazing. From her outfit, I am in awe at the elegance created by the use of tulle fabric. We see this over her shoulder, in her skirt and in her gloves. I am hoping to see more of this vibe welcomed into the upcoming trends, especially in coherence with a corset like Gigi has done – the contrast between strong corsets and flowing tulle is captivating.

Another contrast in materials that graced the Met Gala carpet this week was Paris Hilton’s off the shoulder black dress. Here we see juxtaposition between the aggression of leather and subtlety of sparkles, creating a look of powerful sophistication. In this look, I also like the duality of horizontal lines, with her off the shoulder neckline and the flower choker. These two elements playing off each other accentuates her shoulders creating a beautiful look.

My favourite component of this outfit has to be the material. I have recently become a huge fan of black floral lace and have purchased a top that mirrors this same vibe. This look manages to find balance between the seductive stereotype of lace and empowerment of showing more skin. Therefore, I hope to see this more in future fashion trends.

A fashion statement that featured all throughout this Met Gala was the pairing of contrasting outfits to gloves. This is exhibited in Anitta’s Marc Jacobs look which embodies timeless grandeur through her white gloves and black dress. Gloves seem to have already begun to make a comeback in the past couple years and I think that this Met Gala will have propelled this further.

This final look in one that radiates an ethereal vibe through the accessory of a bouquet of flowers, thus adding more femininity to the outfit. I think that this look is completed through the mini cardigan which have already become quite popular and are such a timeless addition. I also really like the bows that Elle Fanning has on either side of her hair that add an element of croquette fashion, an aesthetic which will hopefully continue to grow.
