Movie Destinations In The UK You Need To Visit This Summer

With summer having officially begun so has the excitement and anticipation for holidays and destination trips abroad. However if you desire something casual and more affordable then I would recommend looking towards a location that is closer within reach. Here I have included 7 movie destinations in the UK you could visit this summer that would make for a nice day trip or a short weekend stay.

Chatsworth House, Bakewell – Pride and Prejudice (2005)

Chatsworth House is Mr Darcy’s home ‘Pemberly’ in the 2005 film Pride and Prejudice. The manor house is located on stunning grounds and has both beautiful gardens and a stunning interior to explore.

Temple of Apollo, Stourhead – Pride and Prejudice (2005)

Another iconic filming location from Pride and Prejudice (2005) is this Temple of Apollo in Stourhead Gardens which was where Mr Darcy confesses his love for Elizabeth. Although this scene was filmed in the rain, it would also be a lovely place to visit in the summer time.

Durham Cathedral, Durham – Harry Potter Series (2001-2011)

Durham Cathedral is one of the filming sites for the school grounds at Hogwarts in the Harry Potter Series. The Cathedral has stunning architecture and there are often concerts and performances being held there, one of which I attended at Christmas time and it was wonderful.

Glenfinnan Viaduct, Scotland – Harry Potter Series (2001-2011)

A second Harry Potter location that is worth visiting is the Glenfinnan Viaduct in Scotland which is the railway seen in the films. You can view this bridge from afar or if you wish you could also board the train and experience it firsthand.

Notting Hill Bookshop, London – Notting Hill (1999)

In London you can find the iconic Notting Hill bookshop where Anna confessed her love for William in the 1999 rom com. This is definitely worth a visit and Notting Hill also has lots of markets and stalls which are great for a day of casual shopping.

St Abbs, Scotland – Avengers: Endgame (2019), Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)

This small fisherman’s village located on the Scottish borders called St Abbs is the location of New Asgard in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This peaceful rural scenery is set right amdist the rugged cliffs and is definitely somewhere to visit this summer.

Royal Crescent, Abbey Green, Holburne Museum, Bath – Bridgerton (2020)

Bath holds multiple filming locations for the Netflix show Bridgerton, such as the modiste, Lady Danbury’s house and homes for the ton’s residents. It is a picturesque city with lots to do and so its perfect for a weekend getaway.
